In part one of our series on blogging and everything it can do for your funeral home, our in-house marketing expert Sam and I sat down and talked at length about why a blog is so important for your website and for your funeral home’s search engine optimization.
Today, I want to go beyond the why and talk more about how you build the blogging habit. Now, there are two very common objections when people think about starting a blog. The first one is they worry that is has to be perfect. And it doesn’t. The second one is that they’re worried that it’s going to take a lot of time. I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t take as much time as you think, especially when you start simple.
And that’s what I want to encourage you to do today. Your blog doesn’t have to be a collection of the best writing in the funeral profession online. It really just has to be a reflection of you, your funeral home, and all of the great stories that are happening each and every day as you do the great work that you’re doing. Then decide what makes sense for a schedule. Is it three times a week? Is it once a week? Is it twice a month? And as long as that schedule is consistent, your readers and your communities are going to get used to the idea of when you post and how often you do it.
There’s one other really easy way to start producing content for your blog and that is by repurposing other people’s content. Now, it’s not stealing. It’s just sharing. You just want to make sure that you cite your sources and tell people where this information is coming from. But you can use all the great stuff that we’re publishing at the Frazer Consultants blog or anything else that you find that you feel like is a good fit for your readers and your local communities.
One of the other typically unforeseen benefits of writing all this content is that it becomes an asset for your funeral home over time. You can use it in a variety of different ways. You can use it in your marketing. You can use it in your education of client families about certain topics. There are a lot of ways to repurpose this content once you’ve written it for your blog.
